If you look in the archive you will find that some who are not surgical candidates have had splenic reduction from use of antibiotics. It is something to discuss with your vet. It helped us greatly and I think that either Caity or Katherine (or maybe both?) had someone helped that way.
Also, have the vet show you how to safely massage the spleen. Some just can't be massaged because they are in too great a risk of rupture (and then surgery just plain needs to tried often enough), but the ones that can be massaged safely can be reduced in size temporarily and it also makes passing stools through the transverse colon and upper part of the descending colon easier so adds to comfort.
