Hi, Julie, and everyone else,

Our Kodo had a hugely enlarged spleen when he was
about nine and was not a surgical candidate. We used
a course of oral antibiotics (clavamox) which brought
his spleen down to almost normal size for a few weeks
and then it got big again. We found we had to do two
weeks on, three weeks off to keep him mobile. The
clavamox gradually lost efficacy. We tried Baytril
and didn't get any results out of that.

We weren't concerned about long term side effects of
this sort of continued antibiotic use because we knew
Kodo's age and other medical issues meant that he only
had a limited lifespan left. I have no doubt that the
clavamox improved his quality of life for several
months.

YMMV, of course.

All the best,
Caity and the fantastic four
