Hi Julie,
My ferret had his spleen removed last May. He was 8.5 years old at the time, he had a lengthy recovery but it was because they also took an abdominal lymph node, part of his pancreas and his left adrenal gland. He made it through the surgery okay though.
His spleen was enlarged and on ultrasound it showed a mass on it. After they removed it and did the biopsy, it was confirmed that it was NOT lymphoma, but it was extramedullary hematopoeisis (excessive accumulation of developing red and white blood cells). I guess this can happen due to chronic infections and/or GI problems in ferrets.
