My husband Scott has long wondered if it's possible for an adrenal ferret
to emit phermones or hormonal cues that might trigger other ferrets into
developing adrenal. Or at least trigger ferrets predisposed to getting adrenal
anyway, to getting it earlier. It's interesting to me, that I've never
experienced an adrenal ferret until a few years ago (I've owned them off and on for 30
years). We jumped into the surgery route early on with this first fella.
Very early on. We then had a few healthy years with our others seeing no other
adrenal cases. Then we had one ferret that upon being old, and stressed by
other health factors develop adrenal. Within two months after that, we found
that another might be developing adrenal. And now in the past few weeks another
ferret (the one that did so excellently with the past surgery) seems to be
spiraling into the same symptomology. All with in a few months. My husband has
noticed that some people in multiple ferret households, have "runs" of
adrenal while others don't.
You know, you'd think this would be a very easy thing to experiment with.
Or possibly there is already some research out there on other species in
similar situations?
Has anybody ever once had this thought? Or seen research on other
animals with like circumstances and results?
