This is a study done on a specific type of mite, so I don't know how much it would apply to the type of mites we're dealing with in ferrets. I originally found this when I was trying to find out if microwaving something would be an effective method of killing the little buggers. Apparently not.

Heating seems to be most effective of all the kitchen related methods of killing them. And not all that hot either.
