That's what we have found. Only one of our ferrets accepted food that was too small for it to happen with.

We've noticed that specific individuals have been far more likely to have it happen frequently (though any ferrets can do it once or a few times). One of ours was so prone to doing it that we successfully taught her how to use her own hand to pop the food out.

BTW, Plain Listerine on a cotton swab is good for helping palate cuts heal when those happen from these acccidents (usually cuts don't seem to happen).
