What follows is an edited version of what I sent to
Ken and Nancy Nyren regarding Moose. I had to remove
references to specific vets.

------------------

What you described is exactly what happened to Ker
Avon. Early in the evening he was running and playing
as normal. Later on his rear legs were useless and he
was incontinent. We were told there were any of a
number of things that could cause this.

In Avon's case the cause proved to be lymphoma which
had attacked his spinal cord. We saw both our regular
vet and another outstanding vet in the Charlotte, NC
area whom our vet often consults with on difficult or
unusual cases. We tried the usual treatment for
lymphoma (pediapred) and he briefly regained partial
use of one leg. Then the paralysis crept upward. He
didn't live very long.

We had discussed some new and very promising tests for
paralyzed ferrets that one of the Charlotte vets's
colleagues had developed, both in terms of diagnostic
value and treatment. If it had not become obvious
quickly that we were dealing with lymphoma we would
have gone that route. <I've deleted specific
referrals here.>

All the best,
Caity and the fantastic four
