Subject: Renal Failure or kidney infection?

Hello,
My ferret has been unable to empty his own bladder for a few months now (probably neorological). I have been expressing his bladder for him periodically at home.

Two months ago(Nov) he had a urinalysis and chem panel done. The urinalysis was normal and the chem panel was fine too.
Just this weak he was back for a recheck of kidney function and his creatinine is now three times what it was in November. It was 0.5 in November it is currently 1.7. They did not do a urinalysis this time but his urine looks like it has plenty of color and it is kind of smelly. His electrolytes currently check out okay.

My vet put him on an antibiotic for a possible kidney infection.
Another possibility is that I am not emptying his bladder enough and the urine is backing up to his kidneys.

He has been walking funny for about a weak now and he is often off balance. He seems to be tender in his abdomen and squirms when I try to empty his bladder(could be painful)
Has anyone had an experience with this quick elevation in creatinine over a two month period?
I am hoping that it is just a bladder infection that affected his kidneys( I hope it is not renal failure.)

Any ideas or experiences would be very appreciated,
Thanks
Tara
