Hi all, I rarely post, but read often. My problem is that my Charlie, who =
appears to be healthy overall (absolutely not dehydrated, not vomiting, has=
a healthy appetite) makes some funny noises. He is between coats, blew hi=
s nice full, beautiful coat, and now appears to be scrawny. Now, a year ag=
o, I took him to a ferret friendly vet near me, when he did just this coat =
blowing thing, because I thought he was losing weight. He wasn't, his weig=
ht was the same as it had been a couple months prior when he'd gotten his s=
hots. =

So, I wasn't too concerned because obviously as stated above, he isn't dehy=
drated at all, eats fine, and is active, although he does like to sleep, he=
will get up to play during play time out of the cage a few hours each day.=
So he's not lethargic. But the other day, he was peering at me through t=
he cage with the eyes and look that say, "Mommy pick me up and smother me w=
ith attention." You know, that look. Anyway, I picked him up and I heard =
this noise. You know how if you have air or something trapped in your thro=
at, sometimes it escapes (usually at an inappropriate time like when you're=
talking to someone you don't know, or you're yawning and it happens). He =
had that noise twice when I picked him up, and of course, the first thing t=
hat jumped to my mind with me being a NICU nurse and a paranoid ferret mom =
was Megaesophagus (no we don't see this in my NICU population, but I do my =
reading on my fuzzies). But, he wasn't throwing up, doesn't feel any skinn=
ier, is eating and drinking fine, so i thought, ok, just a fluke thing, fer=
rets probably make that noise all the time, and I just never paid attention=
to it until now. Well, then during play time a different night, he was ru=
nning around chasing after some other fuzzy, and he did the same thing. =

Now, do I need to be concerned, or just monitor him. I'd hate to take him =
to the vet with just one little tiny symptom, only to fork out the $600 I d=
id previously for a ferret who had a GI obstruction, to do a barium study a=
nd have xrays done. =

Can someone with some veterinary expertise or someone with experience with =
megaE please give me some advice? Thanks a lot.
