I have four ferrets. About three weeks age my male ferret developed multip=
le lessions on his skin, mostly on his belly and back. He has also lost ha=
ir. The lessions quickly grew quite bad. They are about the size of a hal=
f-dime and there are about 10 of them. We have been to the vet numerous ti=
mes. He has prescribed first one antibiotic and now another, along with a =
shot of Ivermectin. His first theory was fighting among my ferrets, which =
I did not think the problem. After two rounds of antibiotic and isolation,=
he was not improved at all and had lost about 200 grams. His coat was she=
dding a lot, though he still has a good bit of hair. I see some minor impr=
ovement after the ivermetectin (this is treatment for mites, though he coul=
d not see any on the surface or on skin scrapings). We ar stumped. Now hi=
s sister (I don't know if they are related as they are rescued) has hair lo=
ss on her tail. Both are eating and drinking well, feces is normal. Coron=
a is mostly lethargic, though he does rouse and play some. He scratches a =
lot, as all them have begun to do. The other two are older, very healthy, =
coats shiney and full, though a little itchy. There are no fleas! Help! =
We are stumped and the vet bills are getting beyond my ability to pay.
