I write this with a very sad heart. My Punkin has to be put to sleep today=
. Did I jump the gun? Did I do the right thing?

She was only 15 months old.....Several weeks ago I noticed that she was shi=
vering all the time. I live in Phoenix AZ. Her little belly kept getting =
bigger and harder as each week passed. Her eating habits changed. She qui=
t eating her food and drank very small amounts of water. Her eyes did not =
lool right, and she felt a bit warm. =

A week ago I took her to my vet. They did blood work, x-rays, centis on he=
r belly an a cult. The vet said that it may be worms, (which was very rare=
in Ferretts.) She went ahead and started her on Antiiotics and a de-worme=
r z9Baytril Susp & Panacur susp.) and told me I would have to force feed he=
r, baby food meat, ensure & pedyilite.Wneh she got the x-rays back she said=
that there was a great deal of fluid in her abdomen. But we still had to =
wait for the blood work and the centis results. All test came back, execp t=
he cult. The The blood work showed that there was no kidney diseast, no li=
ver disease, no heart disease. Her heart sound was good. The vet wantd to=
put her on Flagyl sus, but they were out of it, and had it on order. In=
the mean time I did everything that she said I needed to do. To the point=
that on Wed, Thur & Fri I was coming home during the day to feed her and g=
ive here the ensure and Pedylite. Saturday the vet called me and informed =
me that the Flygl was in an asked me to come and get it. It started Punkin=
on it that night. and by Sunday am she was eating good, (her own Kitty foo=
d) and drinking some water. Her stools had also gone from to complete flud=
to somewhat of a pasty consistency. I was feeling much better by then abo=
ut the possiblity of maybe she might recover. By the time I returned from =
work this after noon, she wa agin shaking all over. In the last five days =
her belly had become quite large, with the filling up with more fluid. The=
vet had told me Sat that it would not dissapate. Anyway be this afternoon=
, Punkin could hardly walk and she was having a hard time getting her breat=
h.

I called the vet in tears, and they told me to go ahead an bring her in. T=
he cult had come back and showed that everything that they had tested for h=
ad come back OK. She and another of the vets agreed, that the only think l=
eft that it could possibly be is cancer. My Baby was so miserable. I know=
that whe was uncomfortable and in pain due to all of the shaking. They sa=
id that it could be a matter of days, weeks or months. But it would deffin=
ately get worse. I opted to have her put to sleep. I could not stand the =
thought of her going thru anymore discomfort. Now I am thinking, did I do =
the right thing? Did I jump the gun? Should I have waited a few more days=
, week. months? I feel so guilty. All I can do is cry. At 60 years old m=
y heart is breaking. Can anyone give me any ideas as to if I was right or=
wrong?

Thank you.
