Has a blockage or a GI growth been considered? Certainly ulcers have to be=
considered and they can be hard to manage.
What is his red cell count like? With anemia transfusion is a good option.=
Many things can cause types of anemia: adrenal growths, kidney disease, =
autoimmune disease, prolonged heat for whole females, chronic infection, sp=
lenic disease, leukemia, ulcers, a perforation from an ingested foreign bod=
y (but that tends to cause a high WBC count), malnutrition, etc. -- anythin=
g which causes enough blood loss, anything which results in a lack of creat=
ion of red blood cells, anything with the outcome being lack of ability for=
the red blood cells to mature properly, anything which destroys red blood =
cells. (I am unsure but I think that sometimes ADV can be a cause, too.) =
There is also variation among individuals so that occasionally what is righ=
t for one or even for most can be unexpectedly wrong for another at times d=
ue to things like personal vulnerabilities and so on; all that anyone can d=
o is to have the treating vet observe and have the vet choose a course of a=
ction based upon what occurs. DO discuss any concerns with the vet and whe=
n needed be sure to ask a lot of "Why?" questions.
