Sorry about being so out of it; my 90 year old step-mom just wound up back up back in the hospital on an emergency basis with complications after emergency surgery around a week ago so I am somehwat muddled today, going back and forth between that and this. The Bonobo is -- of course (I am such a dunderhead today.) Pan paniscus and look for Fran de Waal's and Frans Lanting's work especially though there may be more exciting and more recent stuff...
I remember that I was looking for maze solving with the ferret reference in the past, but I am getting too many activity and toy posts when i search rather than articles, so I need to recall how I narrowed that. One thing I do recall is that the USDA site's ferret article list had some enrichment articles and the site itself should point you to articles which in turn should have bibliographies you can use. Check
http://www.nal.usda.gov/awic/pubs/oldbib/ferretla.htm
and

I seem to also recall the Sydney library having a website with a pointer to such resources.
in some ways it doesn't help that "ferret out" is an alternative way to refer the same sorts of skills trying to be looked up.
Check for biology, psychology, animal care, neurology, etc. refs.
