Lynne is right about teamwork. Mine like to gang up on cabinet doors. If one can't open the door, two lie on their backs and dig until there is a small opening and then another squeezes in far enough to act as a door stop. Then they are all inside. If they get mad, they will look me straight in the eye and give a "deposit" right where they are standing. Most animals may not be able to deliberate, but I think ferrets are an exception.

I don't know about research but years ago I had two
ferrets that worked together. I think that probably took some
thinking!
They also worked together at other things.
