We find that as with so much else the individuals vary and sometimes in unpredictable ways. We've had very bonded pairs who seemed to adjust to a coming separation during an illness, and yet we've also seen ones who didn't seem particularly close to a lost one who responded greatly. We've had ones who never seemed like they could be responsible alphas grow up almost overnight when the our four footed family needed some social structure returned, even some who appeared reluctant to assume the mantle. We always are careful to give a lot of extra attention after the loss,a s i know you will, too. In the most extreme situations we've added a ferret sooner than we ever expected to to end rapid weight loss and lethargy by providing a ditraction.
There is no way to know ahead of time how the little one will respond, Regina, so just give as much love as you can and react as the symptom need.
