Deb,
I JUST went through this w/ one of mine! It is so frustrating. First off, what did you make the e collar out of? The best thing I've found for ferrets is old Xray film. Ask your vet if he has an old 8x10 and make one out of that. Just tape or pad the edges (around the neck and where the 2 ends meet). They don't bend backwards and your baby should adapt easily.
Another thing I've tried is I put gauze over the incision site and actually taped it onto her abdomen w/ medical tape (loosely-I could fit my fingers through)and then around her body...just once around. Somehow it stayed on and she didn't bother it! It was basically only stuck to her hair so it needs to be checked often. Hope this helps.
