It's hard to say what causes it bec. we don't know what "it" is. That's why you need to do the ultrasound and probably a kidney biopsy. Ferrets do get cystic kidneys (I've had a few w/ that and also cystic liver). Of course it could also be a tumor. A urinalysis and bloodwork should be done just to rule out other kidney issues if it hasn't been already.
