Here is a wonderful write-up on mast cell tumors from a vet pathologist:
http://www.afip.org/ferrets/Mast/mastcell.html
which begins:
> Mast cell tumors are the second most common tumor of the =
>skin in the ferret, and an excellent example how diseases of =
>ferrets differ significantly from those of the dog and cat.=A0 These
>tumors generally appear as flat, scaly areas on the skin of the =
>ferret, which may or may not be associated with hair loss.=A0 =
>Often, the tumors appear as an itchy scab on the ferret=92s skin.=A0 =
>Mast cell tumors increase in frequency with age in the ferret, =
>and several mast cell tumors may be present at once on the =
>skin of ferrets...
You will find it very helpful.
(There are just so many ways that ferret differ from dogs or cats...)
BTW, I would watch that ferret for other possibly symptoms of adrenal disea=
se since we don't find frequent attempts are mating to be all that normal i=
n our altered males who don't have it. (Adrenal disease is yet another of =
the things ferrets differ from cats and dogs with.)
