Haven't heard of a melatonin patch, but in any case, it seems that a patch would be somewhat difficult to use with a ferret. I'd guess you would have to shave a spot clean of fur in a location they could neither scratch or bite it off. That might be a difficult spot to find.

The melatonin implants are not expensive. About $20 each, though you have to buy a minimum of four. This would be the way to go. And it is given every 3-4 months, not every 3 weeks. Go to http://www.melatek.net for information on the implants. The melatonin given orally doesn't seem to work as well.

Propecia should be readily available at any pharmacy.

Your ferret is not too far gone, but you'd probably do better to find a vet that could help a little more. If you're willing to drive a bit, you could see Dr. Murray. That'd be the way to go.
