Hi,
I have a 3 yr old spayed female who was diagnosed by stomach biopsy last
fall with eosinophilic(sp?) gastroenteritis. She is on a low allergen feline
food for control of this condition. Her poops are varitions of looseness but
not mucousy or watery, at least not since Oct. She did have one episode of
bloody stools in Oct but this was treated and she hasn't had that since. Her
weight has been stable. She had difficulty as the vet was finishing her biopsy (I
don't know the details of the difficulty, just that they had to close quickly
because she was in some distress) and she took longer to recover from her
biopsy surgery than my other ferrets who have had various surgeries recovered.
She has had hair loss in the center of her back starting about 2 mo ago but
not the classic hair loss pattern of adrenal. Her vet sent blood for the UT
panel and it has come back positive. She has been on 1 mg melatonin/day for
several weeks and she had a one month lupron (100 mc) depot on Tues. Now to my
question. I am reluctant to have the adrenal removed because of her EE status
and also because of her difficulty with the biopsy surgery. Has anyone on the
list, or one of the vets on the list, had experience with a ferret with this
history undergoing the surgery and if so how did the ferret do? Did the EE
flare up? And with her history during and after the prior surgery would she be
at greater risk of complications this time?
Thanks in advance.
Ann
