One caution: just as some human drugs are not safe for ferrets, so also are some veterinary drugs complete with cautions for humans. For example Cloramphenicol has special precautions since that can cause aplastic anemia in some people, so not only should it not be tasted but it shouldn't even be touched. We had to wear gloves to give it and it was prescribed only as a last resort. I also recall some temporary consternation at one point many years ago when a ferret threw up a chemo drug right into my mouth as I was soothing him. So, if you are tempted to try a drug to see how it tastes do make sure first that it is safe for you to do so.

BTW, For some chemo drugs the price is largely the materials used to compound them so buying larger amounts pays off. The reason is that some of them have so many precautions for humans that some of the pharmaceutical equipment used to prepare them can not by law be used afterward for other drugs and has to be gotten rid of in certain ways. (We learned this when one of our ferrets was getting just such a medication.
