Could you please provide documentation of this statement? I've never heard
that metacam and pred can't be used together. I don't believe my vet is
aware of this either.

I would certainly hope that your vet is aware of it. Metacam is a
non-steroidal anti-inflammatory and as such when used with steroids causes a greatly
increased risk of gastrointestinal side effects such as severe ulceration. They
*can* be used together, but with caution and I would highly recommend the use
of stomach protectants and acid reducers if they are going to be used together.
