Hello everybody!
This time I have noticed that Gigio (5.8 y/o) has been developping in a very short recent time (last 2 months) something like callus on his feet. It started between his toes, on skin that is in constant contact with one toe and the other. At this point I thought it may be normal as he runs daily for a couple of hours on concrete floor, although he had been doing so for most of his life without presenting any callus at all.
Then the "hard" skin started to look "cracked" and "layered" and now the same thing has started to happen on his foot ball, not in the center of the paw yet, at the moment is visible in the superior part and borders.
What I don't like is the "quick" development of this, and the appearance of the callus itself, is not "smooth" like the ones I have seen in dog paws, but as I mentioned, it is cracked and this cracks looks like little layers. His foot is dry, doesn't have a change in smell or anything that could make think off a fungal infection but I wouldn't rule out this possibility. His feet seems to be more itchy and he "bites" them vigourously from time to time. I don't know if this is a symptom of a possible infection or a direct consequence of the cracks on the skin that I can figure are making him uncomfortable, like when our hands get cracks during the cold winter and feel itchy.
The concret floor where he plays and runs has nothing different and is not cleaned with anything but clean water. Any ideas of what could it be? Can I try puting on some moisturizing cream or medicated cream? I wish I could make him wear a pair of shoes...
Best regards to you and your fuzzies,
Caterina.
