Hi!!! My name is Michelle and I am writing in regards to my six month old g=
irl ferret named Prissy. We adopted Prissy about 6 weeks ago. She had her =
shots the day we adopted her and she was very healthy. We have 3 more ferr=
ets at home (2 males and 1 female). Prissy got along well with all the othe=
r ferrets. Muddy, my oldest ferret, would sometimes play too rough and it =
would scare her and she would screech so I could come rescue her. One nigh=
t Muddy did this and when I went to get her I noticed she was shaking alot.=
I put Muddy up and babied prissy alot but all that night she just wasn't =
herself. This was on a Friday nite. Saturday A.M. she was just laying aro=
und not playing at all and she was warm to the touch. We called our vet an=
d explained what happened with Muddy and she said she was probably just str=
essed and to watch her if no better bring her in on Monday. By Monday Pris=
sy was very sick. Had ran a temp Sunday also. Monday after checking her a=
nd asking us to leave her there they called to say she had a severe bladder=
infection. They were giving her medication for that and her fever and als=
o she was dehydrated so they were giving fluid under the skin. They did th=
is for her all week (she was staying at the vets) but her fever was not res=
ponding to any medication. She had a temp of 105 to 105.9 until the follow=
ing Saturday when it finally broke. during this time they were having to s=
yringe feed her and she had lost the use of her hind legs. If she tried to=
move she would just pull herself. Also, the vet said she had an ulcer. H=
er stools were very dark and tarry. They said they did x-rays and an ultra=
sound but everything looked fine. They did not find any problems such as =
lesions, swollen organs etc. They said they did not really know what is wr=
ong with her. They kept her for two weeks and then they said we could brin=
g her home because all they were doing were syringe feeding her which we co=
uld do at home. They also had suggested to us that we may want to put her =
to sleep because they don't know what is wrong with her but they don't thin=
k she is going to get any better. They think it may be encephalitis of the=
brain? ( I hope I spelled that right). We brought her home this Monday an=
d we have been feeding her from a spoon and we have to give her water with =
syringe. She has a very hearty appetite. Her stools are regular now so ma=
ybe her ulcer is healing. The problem is her temperature keeps going up an=
d down. =

If anyone has had any kind of experience like this please let me know. I am=
at a loss and I will do anything to save my baby. It is just very frustra=
ting that they don't have any clue to what may be wrong. I did ask the vet=
about aleutian disease because she had a lot of the symptoms but the vet s=
aid that she didn't think it was this because Prissy didn't come in with th=
ose problems. She wasn't losing weight or hind limb problems until she had=
been with them for a couple of days. So once again, if anyone has any com=
ments on this please, please let me know. =

I appreciate everyone taking the time to read this.

Sincerely,

Michelle and Prissy
