Oh, one other note: if an individual is having a hard time swallowing note that "swallowing team" instructions for humans with dysphagia (bad swallowing) call for foods to be pureed (or casserole, or molded, either of which is usually a better meal for humans but not necessarily for ferrets for whom pureed is fine, BUT for fluids it calls for them to be thickened. This is because a thin liquid is harder to direct into the esophagus rather than the trachea when swallowing. So, if your ferret is out of it discuss optiimal thickness of the sugar solution with your vet to have the best safety.
