My ferret just last week had a dislocated knee.
Obviously there are several possible causes of leg
problems, but maybe this will help. He wasn't
dragging his hing leg but he favoring it severely.
When I took him to the vet, I could feel his knee pop
when it moved (once she showed me what to look for and
before she moved it back in place). You could also
see a little bit of bruising inside his leg. In this
case, she said as long as the connecting ligament
wasn't torn or you didn't see ususual redness in the
area, then rest and time should fix it. So far that's
been true. It's been about 4 days now and he is
noticeably better. She said he should be quite a bit
better in 10 to 14 days. She also said it often
happens when they get a toenail caught on something.

By the way, I don't consider 4 years old to be old.
While a tumor is one possible cause, there could be
many other possible causes too. I don't think I would
give a ferret aspirin without consulting with a
veterinarian and knowing the cause.
