I am totally stumped on what is wrong with Bear! First off he is a 2 year old male sable ferret. Off and on for the last year he has had tummy problems. One minute his fat and fluffy, then he will start loosing weight, having the yellowish (some times green) diarrhea or seedy stools. I have taken him to have poo test, after poo test. Nothing has ever shown up. We have check several times in a role to makes sure it was not coccida.(spelling?) My vet will usually put him on some antibiotics, either amoxi or the Albon. Then I will give him the bene-bac,after the antibiotics are up, for 5 to 7 days. Then the poos will start looking normal again, in color and form. During this time he is playful, eats fine, doesnt show any signs of not feeling well.
This clears up for a couple of months, then here it comes again. In the last couple of months it hit, we did the same thing over,(poo test, meds, bene-bac) but the weight never came back on. The poo went back to normal in looks, but with in a few weeks later he has the diarrhea again, (some greenish looking) and today for the first time, he was not his frisky self. The poo usually has a bad smell, loose, seedy, or the diarrhea. It is not consistant any of the above description.
I dont know what is wrong with him, and I feel helpless.
I know there is something being missed. I am making another appointment for the vet, but I figure it will be the same, nothing in the poo test. What else should I have done, and what else should we be looking for? Please if anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it. I am afraid if we dont figure out what this is, He will continue to have this off and on, then I will loose him. I feel with the Albon and Amoxi, we are just treating the symptoms, not curing the problem.
