It can;t always be identified but sometimes found on a fecal stain as spiral
shaped bacteria. A culture may or may not reveal it, but it can be found
in so many different places in the body (different species perhaps but still
heliobactor). Sometimes I just treat for it and one of the antibiotics I
use is Amoxi which could explain improvement. I would also strongly look
into the things Sukie mentioned and see if this is possible.

IBD well it can be managed with diet and pred, it is diagnosed only by
intestinal biopsies. It can be caused by food allergies which is why it is
important to eval what he is eating so you can determine this. You can also
do a diet trial if you don't find another answer. My guess is there is an
infection that is somewhere and you can get the level down for a while but
perhaps there is a small group of resistent bacteria that are not being
killed off. OR like Sukie mentioned there is a secret stash that may have
spoiled that he gets into.

Hope this helps and good luck.

Dr. Sue
