Hi,

one of my ferrets has a relapse of meningitis.
He had it about 3 weeks ago, and he responded very well and very quickly -within 3 days he was more or less back to normal- to Baytril(enrofloxacin). He received 12,5 mg Baytril SID,SC, during 10 days (he weighs about 900grams).
Two days ago his symptoms came back. The vet advised us to put him back on baytril,12,5 mg, SID, SC for the first 3-4 days, and then switch to the oral tablets (5mg PO, SID) for 3-4weeks.
I'm worried that this dosage is too low though, for meningitis... I checked the new Exotic Animal Formulary and they give these dosages for enrofloxacin in ferrets:
5-10 mg/kg PO, SC, IM q12h
8,5 mg/kg PO q24h or divided q12h
10-20 mg/kg PO,SC,IM q24h
10-30 mg/kg PO,SC,IM q24h

Does anyone know what dose for meningitis in ferrets is advised, so I can talk about this with my vet? Does anyone have experience with meningitis in ferrets?
I'm very worried because he doesn't seem to respond to the treatment as well as he did last time.
