Thank you, Sandra. This is a big help to understand what happened. Are there any visual signs that might alert an owner that it is an ongoing problem other than just stress from surgery? How might one 'watch' this condition?

The condition does bear watching, but as long as it is infrequent it *should* be safe to do surgery. It would be best to check with your vet as to your fur kid's individual risk factors before making your decision.
