Pred doesn't last for 24 hours in ferrets. While we
have had good results with once a day in the morning
in one case (Lady Ayeka) when treating insulinoma we
generally have had to divide the dosage in two and
give it twice a day. That also seems to reduce
stomach upset, a side effect of pred in some ferrets.

I can't respond to the issues the book you read
raised. I simply don't have the expertise. I do know
that we've had good medium and long term results with
twice daily prednisolone (pediapred).

The usual disclaimer applies: I am not a vet nor do I
play one on TV. I am a moderately experienced ferret
owner.

All the best,
Caity and the fearsome fivesome
