My ferret has been taking 1/4 of a 5 mg prednisolone tablet once per day for about 6 months. I can tell that he is having hind leg weakness at times now and needs his medicines increased. The problem is that I don't think I can split the 5 mg pill accurately if I try to do less than fourths. Since the smallest "piece" of pill I'd have would be 1.25 mg, I'd have to double his current dose which seems extreme.
I've read here that prednisolone seems to work better than prednisone and that seems to be the case for my ferret. If I go to liquid meds, that would be prenisone, not prednisolone, correct?
Can anyone tell me how they've handled this kind of situation? I'd like to keep him on the smallest dose of medicine possible. Thanks in advance.
