One of my ferrets had her eye badly scratched a while
back (we think from the cat). In her case, my vet
sent me right away to a vetinary opthalmologist. When
they took in, we discussed the possibility of having
to remove the eye and the bottom line was that ferrets
can get along well without an eye. As it turned out,
they stitched up her eye. They gave her antibiotics
before surgery and we also had several drops that we
put in her for about two weeks. One was an antibiotic
I think and the other was a solution to keep her eyes
dialated. She has a tiny bit of a cataract because of
the severity of the tear but otherwise, you would
never know she ever had a problem. I would urge you
to contact a veterinary opthalmologist. It was a bit
of a drive for me but well worth it. A nearby vet
school should be able to give you a recommendation
too. Now my ferret was a youngster at the time but I
would think an older ferret who is otherwise healthy
could would do well also. I definitely don't think I
would wait a week. I'm not a vet.
