The only clue I have is one Pam Sessoms suggested
before. You took him off pred and his blood glucose
level dropped from the very high diabetic levels he
had before.

The issue now is how far will the glucose levels drop.
You may want to get a glucometer at home so you can
monitor his glucose and intervene if needed.
Otherwise I really think you are looking at another
vet trip tomorrow to get a glucose reading.

I suspect Pam's suggestion, a swing from insulinoma to
diabetes, may well be the answer. You may end up with
Cody on a much lower dose of pred. Our Lady Ayeka had
insulinoma and at first just .03ml (1mg/ml)
concentration of pediapred was enough to keep her
blood glucose up. That's a tiny amount but without it
she had clear insulinoma symptoms and low blood sugar.
Over time she needed more as the disease progressed
and she eventually did have insulinoma surgery.

The key to all of this, if Pam is right, is to closely
monitor Cody's blood glucose levels, something you
have found difficult to do up until now.

FWIW, I doubt it's simply old age.

Good luck to you and to Cody.

The usual disclaimer applies: I am not a vet, nor do
I play one on TV. I have had ferrets with insulinoma
and two who had transient, short term diabetes after
insulinoma surgery.

All the best,
Caity and the fantastic five
