Ardith, given the horsehead plaster Alicia's hopuse is likely to be very old (and hence leakier and more expensive to heat than more recent homes. It may be cooler is Summer, though, if it was built during the same time frame as my late grandmother's simply due to high ceilings (another factor which could reduce ozone levels near the ferrets due to increased cubic volume for dilution. Notice, too, how large it is. So, we have four possible factors: she may have a type that isn't among the worst ozone creators, the space is large, the cieilings may be higher than 8 or 9 feet found in more recent homes creating a larger volume in which to dilute the ozone, and the house may be well vented (If it costs a small fortune to heat that is a good indicator.)

BTW, there used to be ozone generators in some driers to give a "spring smell" to laundry and there was a study which found that the lifespans of the pets in those houses were significantly reduced.

I managed to get a hold of Steve and ask if positive ion generator ones vs. negative ion generator ones were any safer or cleaner when they were researching for the clean room. No. They are not. They also created ozone (which you know anyway since being able to smell it is a bad sign about amounts of ozone), and they also released everything in a poof when the power running them was interrupted or reduced enough to create a "brown-out" effect.

Rather than assume that any given one may be safe it pays to look at the ones in the current article and to watch for the larger future article in CR.
