It has nothing to do with the melatonin. It's one of the most common of ferret health problems: dialtive cardiomyopathy. You will have heard it mentioned often in all of the ferret lists.

If you search around you will find cardiomyopathy information in many places. Take the date of the info into account because the knowledge base on this has greatly increased over the years.
