Do try to smoke outside and get a hepa filter air cleaner. (See earlier discussions on the dangers of many electrostatic air cleaners, ozone, and smoke.) Ferrets are sensitive enough to the effects of cigarette smoke that smoking around them is a negative impact on their health, making them a good research animal for studying the risks of second hand smoke and of smoking.
I am glad to hear that he seems cooler and that he is drinking. Hopefully, the problem is transient and is passing, but be aware that the fever may return.
