Hi, Julie,

That depends on the progress of the disease and how it
is treated. All of mine had surgery. None of mine
died from insulinoma. Something else (generally
lymphoma) got them first. One, Ker Avon, never had
insulinoma symptoms again after surgery so I believe
he was actually cured.

I've never had a young ferret (much under four) get
insulinoma so I don't know what the maximum life
expectancy is. Ayeka went three years, two months
from diagnosis until she died. It was lymphoma in her
GI tract which killed her. Avon went two and a half
years as did Podo. Kodo went two years. I should
point out that both Podo and Kodo were seven and a
half years old at time of diagnosis so I don't believe
insulinoma shortened their lifespan at all.

Bottom line: with aggressive treatment I wouldn't
assume anything about how long a ferret can live with
the disease.

The usual disclaimer applies: I am not a vet, but
four of the 13 ferrets I've developed insulinoma
during their lives.

All the best,
Caity and the fantastic five
