My 7 year old male has been having moderate to severe diarrhea the last 2 weeks. I took him in for a fecal and the doctor saw what he thought was active yeast cells and some budding of cells. Send the results out and got told it confirmed yeast.
My guy has been on and off flagyl and amoxyl for the past few months due to a helico back in january and then started him back up 2 weeks ago when the diarrhea returned. I have him eating cooked chicken, totally ferret, and treats now and again. His appetite has gotten better but overall i still worry. My vet put him on ketoconazole which is good for yeast but really rough on the liver.

My question is whether yeast could be causing the diarrhea(I read article form Dr. Williams yeast is normal even at high levels)? In which case is the use of keto worth the risks?

Also could the yeast have been a second hand thing caused by the use of the drugs which kill off good bacteria which would normally inhibit yeast infections(in which case what is causing the diarrhea?

Also, my vet is concerned about a mass he felt in his abdomen which could be a root cause of diarrhea as it could be around the intestines. I can't think of surgery as his size and recovery ability are really bad. Maybe ultrasound for now?
History-My guy has had both adrenals removed(at least mostly) in 2002 and 2003. Had a bad bout of helico a few months back and had bad ulceration which required baby food syringed for 8 weeks.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
