There is an OTC treatment for treating/controlling yeast in humans that I have heard all who have tried it, rave about, and confirmed it with my own Doctor. It is Acidophilus (spelling?) and you can get it in active cultures at a health food store as a supplement. It is what is in yogurt, which is why they tell people to eat yogurt if they have yeast problems. Now I know that human medicine is not always appropriate for pets (and can even be deadly) and I would absolutely check with my vet before trying this, but if it works and isn't as harmful as the med your vet currently has him on, then maybe it is worth asking about. Just a thought...
Take Care,
Moscha (not a vet)
