My ferret, Rikki, had adrenal surgery in August of 2003. (The tumor was on his right side so some of it may not have been completely removed. He did well for awhile but in less than a year his adrenal symptoms came back.
I was unwilling to do another surgery so I put him on Lupron. When melatonin implants became available, I got them as well. He is doing very well on the Lupron and Melatonin.
If your animal is not fit for surgery stick with the melatonin and the lupron. It isn't worth putting a weak-hearted animal through major surgery.
I'm very happy with the results of the medication and would not dream of putting Rikki through another surgery.
