I have a neutered male, under 3 years old (Ravi) that has been losing weight over the last month, though until the other day he had shown no other symptoms, other than sometimes small poop. At our annual exam last week the vet did a fecal, which was negative and we went home hoping for the best. By the middle of this week Ravi would not eat kibble and began having trouble walking and holding his head steady, I could get him to eat some duck soup and we went back to the vet. He did a full blood work up and his BUN = 130.0 mg/dl and his creatine = 13.60 both counts sky high. He also showed low potassium levels 3.67mmol/l. All the other values were pretty normal. In the urinalysis there were both red and white blood cells. So we are currently treating the little guy with Clavamox for an infection and giving SubQ fluids with electrolytes and hoping for the best. My vet says it is very uncommon for ferrets this young to show such awful values regarding the kidneys. Has anyone heard of this? or have any ideas to share, any help is greatly appreciated.
Wish us luck, Lisa
