Subject: Melatonin implants in Healthy Ferrets and Plastic Shells

We have just put melatonin implants into all 10 of our healthy ferrets. We
wondered if the ones who have winter coats will keep them, and if the ones
who have summer coats will grow winter coats.

My question is will the plastic capsules have to be removed after years
and years of this, and how far can they migrate...will it even be
possible....the company says the capsules do NOT disintegrate. Can plastic
caps cause any illnesses or anything under their skin like that? They are
pretty small but that is sure going to add up every four months. They are
on their first ones right now, and they range from 10 months to 2 years
old.

The reason we did this was because I can't change my schedule and I know
that the more melatonin they have, the less their hormones wreak havoc on
their adrenal glands, correct?

I hope that this will make up for the artificial lighting scheme in my
house!!!!!
