Hi all,
here I am again with several questions.

But this is it in short:
one of my ferrets is almost 4y old, male, has lymphoma and *had* meningitis=
. =
He is on the following medicines and supplements:
-Doxycycline 0,5mg BID (for the meningitis)
-Prednisolone 0,5mg BID (for the lymphoma and meningitis)
-Pycnogenol
-Essiac =
-CalciumAscorbate (Vitamin C)
-another antioxidant-mixture containing Vitamin A, B, E, Selenium and Zinc
-and Chicken gravy ;-)
now I have three questions:
1) He seems to be recovered from the meningitis, but I have thought this be=
fore...this was his 2nd relapse (see the link for the entire story). He is=
still on doxycycline for now (almost 3 weeks now), but I'm worried to quit=
with it... I'm afraid for another relapse.
Would it be contra-indicated in any way to give this to him for the rest of=
his life (which won't be th=E0t long, unfortunately, since he also has the=
lymphoma...)?
I will certainly address this issue with my vet, but since she has limited =
ferret-specific experience, certainly with cases like this, I'd like to kno=
w your opinion... =
Or would it be safer to put him on another antibiotic after this cure, e.g.=
Ampicillin-clavulanic acid (synulox), which has been used "chronically" in=
ferrets with lymphoma, at least in Europe (so I have been told).
2) Would you try to lower the prednisolone dose again or is it best to keep=
him on this dose?
3)I have been thinking of giving him milk thistle too, but I can't find an =
alcohol-free liquid in the whole of europe (and the capsules I've found con=
tain a dose that is much too large and it isn't possible to divide them int=
o the appropriate dose). If you had to choose between milk thistle with al=
cohol (55% v/v) or no milk thistle at all, what would you choose?
