Subject: Bleeding ferret, was: Cold, weak, unresponsive ferret

I have been mailing Sukie privately about this. Jasmine's blood glucose is=

normal. She was at the vets yesterday and had a blood test and my vet took=

urine out of her bladder (cysto). When I fetched Jasmine, there was a lot
of blood in her cage, we thought she was pooping blood. She got pred and
baytril injected, I took her home. At home I cleaned her and noticed the
blood was coming out of her vulva. So I phoned my vets and it was out of
hours by now but my vet came out especially to see me (as opposed to the ve=
t
on duty seeing me). Jasmine was loosing a lot of blood, it was just runnin=
g
out, especially when a bit of pressure was applied to her abdomen. Jasmine=

got 4 ml of blood transfused, vitamin K injection in case there is a liver
problem and not enough K and she had vetergesic pain killer and 40 ml of su=
b
q fluids. =

During the night, she was still straining to urinate (or maybe there is an
infection/ injury that gives her the urge to try and pee) and she was
passing blood at least every half an hour and moaning while trying to pee, =
I
didn't expect her to be alive this morning but she is.

>From what I can remember my vet told me, the urine looked fine, no blood in=

it, nothing wrong with it. The blood was a different matter, my vet spun i=
t
once and it was very fatty and not many red blood cells in it I think. I
can't remember the words she used. =

I just have no diea where she is bleeding from, my vet felt her kidneys/
abdomen yesterday (pre blood test/ cysto) and Jasmine felt no pain. All I
can think of is that maybe she got injured during the cysto and isn't
clotting?

morning.

She needs her body temperature raised immediately with a heating pad & with=

her wrapped in towels or a blanket on top of it. I hope you've already done=

this.

I've had a couple of ferrets present these symptoms & I agree that
insulinoma
is a strong possibility, although since I've joined this list I've learned
about so many other ferret conditions that I wouldn't swear to it. One of
the
ferrets this happened to with me was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy & a 3rd
degree heart block, along with insulinoma. Yours sure needs to get her body=

temperature up fast, though, before & on the way to the vet.
