There are latex paints made that are less odiforous - that is what we used
to paint the shelter a few years back.
We were advised about this at Sherwin Williams when I was inquiring about
the animals being in the space requiring paint. Do remember ferrets sense
of smell is far above ours -- their olfactory senses are greatly amplified
being so close to the brain... a little odor to us will overwhelm them
greatly.
If you are using standard paints I would leave them away form the room
for several days -- and still ventilate it well.
