The vet told us that the eggshells can cut the large intestine. I told her they're
ground up, pulvarized, but she said not to put them, or the bones, in the recipe. We
don't have a meat grinder and can't afford one right now, and that was the other
concern I had... that a blender wouldn't do the job well enough and there would be
bone fragments, etc. in the soup.

I doubled the amount of kibble in it last time I made some, just to try and up the
nutrients, but I doubt that's enough. Now I'm wondering if I should make mostly
ground/mushy/soupy kibble for him and add just enough of the gravy to add flavor
that he's used to? This may at least, if he will eat it, give him a more balanced diet,
right?

In my opinion, start making the gravy according to the recipe! What was your
vet's reasoning for not including the bones and egg shells? They are vital
parts of that recipe as far as providing a proper balance of nutrients.
