We have one who is a percussionist. He likes to "play" the barrier no matter what side he is on, so for him that noise means that he is busy playing. It is when he stops and stares at the barrier that he wants to go over and do other things. If he's shifted in mid-composition he will just go back to his playing but on the other side of the plexiglass.
