I'm going out on a limb here but I believe it is very important that we
all realize that sometimes there might be a need to question the
medications our vets have prescribed. We've had serious reactions and
side effects that could have caused death if the ferrets had been kept
on the medications.

It's important to understand that even though our vets have the
knowledge and skills for prescribing medications, there is always the
possibility of adverse reactions. It's just as important to understand
that certain medications shouldn't be stopped without a weaning off
period and some medications require an adjustment period. When in
doubt, be sure to clearly explain to your vet the negative reactions
you are seeing and how that differs from your ferrets normal behavior.

For example - Flagyl can cause more stress than it has healing abilities
and it can cause ferrets to go completely off food and water which can
lead to dehydration and malnutrition. Some ferrets will do fine with
it while others will not.
