We did have a kit who did something strange with his mouth or throat -- but i can't recall quite what (It's around 20 years ago.) who turned out to have erupted a molar through his palate. I think maybe he was swallowing funny or something like that. Surgery corrected it.
Anyway, perhaps your ferret's teeth should also be looked at.
